That episode is the one that got to me the most--as a latch key kid, I was always peeking out the curtain and listening for noises in case STRANGER DANGER paid a visit..!Brother Billhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13176233134588988372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522536908521187955.post-61115738151773814292010-11-11T00:38:48.615-08:002010-11-11T00:38:48.615-08:00What a great post! I loved the scary Dick Van Dyke...What a great post! I loved the scary Dick Van Dyke episodes as a kid, too. Another one that scared me a bit was the flying saucer/spooky water cooler at the office episode:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0559857/synopsis
Hadn't a clue as to who "Sonny Tufts" was... well, actually I still don't.
Was "Long Say's Journey Into Day" the same one where Millie lends Laura a bird that shrieks "Don't be nervous! Don't be nervous!" constantly? I also remember her turning the radio up and ironing in the middle of the night to calm herself down... of course *I* knew if you turned the radio up, you wouldn't be able to hear The Maniac break into the house. Silly Laura.jeanlasshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14810740166634150059noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522536908521187955.post-48759907442265316482010-11-01T19:33:48.769-07:002010-11-01T19:33:48.769-07:00Barry-- yea, the "walnut episode" rides ...Barry-- yea, the "walnut episode" rides a fine line between silly and genuinely creepy... at least it seemed so to this gradeschooler!Brother Billhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13176233134588988372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522536908521187955.post-45682841757520469862010-11-01T17:28:28.497-07:002010-11-01T17:28:28.497-07:00I saw that walnut episode when I was only 5 years ...I saw that walnut episode when I was only 5 years old. I guess kindergarten must've been half-days, cause I remember coming home and watching the Dick Van Dyke show in the afternoon.

When the walnuts starting showing up in strange places, I laughed. It was all rather silly and cute. But when Dick lost his thumbs, OMG! You can bet I stopped laughing then! After the avalanche of walnuts scene, I was so freaked out, I had to change the channel to Sesame Street.

The only other tv show that creeped me out that much was the Hardy Boys when Shaun Cassidy picked up a voodoo doll and Nancy Drew got kidnapped at the end. I seem to remember a laughing animatronic clown too. *shudder*

Great post!Barryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14197285835686709231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522536908521187955.post-26093840333376522712010-10-30T17:54:09.884-07:002010-10-30T17:54:09.884-07:00Vague memories of some of these, but now I want to...Vague memories of some of these, but now I want to see them again!
