I have always loved that Harlan Ellison story and never forgot the part about "a great many things he had lost or given away as a child." Just seemed so profound. Can't wait to read more posts. I have been searching for collectables from my childhood for half my adult life it seems. Most of these things are books of course, but sometimes toys and even "art glass" decanters that are now coined on ebay as "mid century modern" items.

I also have the same affinity for inscribed books because of my similar history of giving and receiving them. I had a copy of one of those old 60s Hitchcock books called Monster Museum that haunted me till i found it again. I think it was responsible, along with a book of Poe tales, for my love of horror to this day.

I don't think all baby-boomers are as influenced by nostalgia as I am-but it is a real soft spot for me that I have pondered on many occasions. Am i trying to buy back my youth? Return to a happier time? Or just wallow in self-pity? Beats me! It never ends ...highwaykneeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00458606266831050852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7522536908521187955.post-66376796566071029952016-02-24T18:36:01.699-08:002016-02-24T18:36:01.699-08:00wonderful post. i just discovered this blog and ha...wonderful post. i just discovered this blog and have been going through the archives the past few days. great stuff!gregcondonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07965504179392879921noreply@blogger.com
